FTC Robotics Seminar - Hands on Learning
Tuesdays April 9 thru May 14 from 7-8:30pm

The mentors of the team  will be in the Makerspace to discuss several topics related to building the robots used during competition.

examples of topics covered: 
Component overview + basic building,
Block programming, Servos & Motor,
Mechanical issues such as Gear Ratio,
Torque, Drive Systems.

Must be between 11 and 18 years of age to attend.
Space is limited. 
Registration for each individual class is Required.

Books are usually available at the Medway Public Library

Technical Assistance

Every Friday morning from 10-12pm there will be someone in the Makerspace to assist with:
- converting 8mm/Super8 film to a digital format 
- transferring VHS to DVD
- scanning/digitizing slides and photos
- the 3D printer (prior certification required)
- the Large Format Printer
as well as the laminator, DVD/CD buffer, DVD/CD duplicator!

April Photo Challenge: 
PETS: This month's challenge is to get out and photograph some pets. If you don't have any, visit your friend's or a local pet shop. Photographing animals poses its own set of challenges. You are working with a moving and possibly unwilling subject. Try to get down on their level, focus on the eyes, look for great light and see how creative you can get!

Art Week is April 26-May 5. 
To celebrate the arts, this week in the Makerspace we will
explore music and sound through science and engineering. 

On Tuesday we will delve into the world of sound waves and explore
how they move, how they are reflected, and how they are absorbed.
 

On Thursday, we will use our engineering and design skills to build
our very own musical instruments and then
play them together in our very own Found Sound Band!

DIY Botanical Print Workshop

DIY decorative hanging print project surrounded by saw, stapler, wood stain and twine

What better way to celebrate Spring than with making your very own hanging botanical print.
Choose from 6 hand-drawn custom prints by Annie Mertlich, owner of Wildfield Paper Co., courtesy of the Spring 2017 issue of The Magnolia Journal.
We will be using small hand tools and wood stain.

Remembering the Korean War
with Veteran
Tony Manbucca

Please join us as Tony Manbucca, born and raised in Milford, MA shares his story of what it was like to be stationed in Korea during the War. He will also be showing pictures he took during his time there. Manbucca went to Korea as a Pfc in 1954 and returned to the US in
1955 as a Spec-4. In Korea, Manbucca was a CW (Code) Radio operator & provided communication for an Intelligence Organization.

Character animation is a fascinating field for those with an interest
in drawing,  acting, and storytelling through film and video games.


Come into the Makerspace and watch a live animation demonstration
from senior video game animator
and game animation teacher Seth Kendall.

Feel free to ask questions about the field or animation process as he works!

Our resident artist, Trudi, will show us how to use oil paints to create a Bob Ross Style painting.

We have a new addition to the Makerspace.  
It's a KnitKing (Brother) KH 230 Bulky Knitting Machine.  
If you would like to use it,  you must be certified first.   
We will walk you through a small knitting project
after which you will be able to make your own projects.
Please allow 60 minutes for certification. 
Registration is required.   Must be 17 years or older.

An instructor will be in the Makerspace to show you how to print an object.  
You will then be considered "certified" to use it during library hours. 
Please allow 30 minutes for certification. This is first come, first served.
